2009 looks to be an exciting year for sustainable transportation

Greetings from Free Cycles and MIST! We are already very busy with projects and programs for 2009. The Free Cycles Community Bike Shop is filling all our volunteer shifts for the spring, planning is underway for the 12th annual Festival of Cycles (4/25), and we are happily anticipating the upcoming Higgins and Beckwith single lane roundabout this summer.

Plans are in the works for vitalizing transportation in the heart of our city with the Downtown Master Plan, and we have an exciting proposal for creating a crosstown bikeway on S. 5th and S. 6th.

As always, we continue to track bicycle crashes and conflicts thru our 'Hot Spots' page, with the goal to eventually find solutions. The 'See Cycles' (or 'bikes' or 'cyclists', not sure yet) campaign is building momentum and we look forward to outreach in university classrooms, community events and, of course, the Farmers Market this summer.

We welcome and encourage involvement by you. There are many opportunities! Let us know if you have time to participate.
