There was also a bike trailer expo at the Clark Fork Market. Free Cycles sported some of their best bike trailors built from various parts.

Connecting Communities for a Cause

Come ride beautiful Montana and raise money to get bike tools to those in
need in Pakistan, Hamilton and Missoula

The Missoula Institute for Sustainable Transportation (MIST) and Free Cycles are organizing a 1-day, 48-mile bike ride from Missoula to Hamilton to raise money for bike tools for Pakistan, Hamilton, and Missoula.

Riders will meet at 12:30pm at the Free Cycles shop at 732 S. 1st St. W. The ride includes a bicycle ferry across the Bitterroot River in Lolo, a 16-mile paved trail to Stevensville and a beautiful tour along the base of the Bitterroots for the final 20 miles (4 miles are not paved). Arriving around 5pm at a dance theater, we’ll enjoy dinner, music and conversation about ‘creating connections’ in Western Montana. A bus and bike trailer will get us all home by about 9:30pm. Like to bike? Don’t miss this!

Riders donate a $12 entry fee and raise at least $40 in pledges, with proceeds going towards bike tool purchases. The tool kits will go to groups in Pakistan (as they rebuild from earth quakes), Hamilton (to start a youth program), and Missoula (for the Free Cycles shop). Free Cycles, a project of MIST, has been very successful helping those in need get free bikes. Come help us get tool kits to other regions so they can start their own programs. Call Bob at 406-880-6834 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to ride, help or pledge. Entry fee covers bus ride and dinner. Note: a small pack can be transported to Hamilton- bring it to the ride start. Bring slippers too; the theater is a shoe-free zone. And don’t forget the guitar, drum or mando!
