MIST News Summer 2012
We have just completed: a town square demonstration, a dozen bicycle workshops with schools, the 15th annual Festival of Cycles, expansion of Free Cycles shop hours, advocacy and design for several single lane roundabouts and work on a new transportation model for Missoula.  We are now heading into a busy summer time, building off of completed projects.  Our current activities include the renovation of the Pedal Power Warehouse, which includes the trailer factory, a budding campaign for bike lane safety, finalizing the proposal for an alternative to asphalt for the River Trail, revising regulations for driveways to include permeable pavers, and refinement of the Missoula Model.  Our aim is to help Missoula move in a direction of sustainable transportation.  This means less reliance on the automobile and oil and generally more reliance on walking, bicycling and transit.  We estimate that 50% of current motorized trips can be shifted- voluntarily- to walking, cycling and transit.  A key is to make these more sustainable modes very safe and welcoming.  While Missoula has a good foundation in place, there are still many gaps in the system that lead people to feel less than safe or cared for.  We work with all people to change that.  Let us know if you would like to be involved.   -Bob Giordano, director of programs, 880-6834, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
